THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

HAPPY 2ND ANNIVERSARY

Slum2school Africa marked in grand style its 2nd Year Anniversary on Thursday, 27th and Friday 28th February, the successful admission of about 650 disadvantaged children from slums into schools through the course of the years.  On this remarkable celebration the focus was giving the children a memorable experience and it was tagged #ForTheLoveOfAChild.

Professional Volunteers and Community Based Volunteers took over a hundred children on an excursion to National Museum Onikan, Nike Art Gallery Lekki and Silverbird Galleria Victoria Island. For most of these children, it was a great opportunity to experience the outer world as it was their first time leaving the confines of their homes in the slums. This was also an opportunity for volunteers to connect, mentor and also have fun with the children.

The children arrived at the national museum by 9am and were shown Nigerian historical artefacts alongside got to gain more knowledge of the cultural relevance of the artefacts. They also got the opportunity to connect with volunteers by playing games in the part. Later in the day, the first set of children went to Silverbird Galleria to watch LEGO movie while the second set had the opportunity to view the artistic designs of various signatures at Nike Art Gallery. Various artists were available to show the kids around and many of them fell in love with arts and promised to keep on practicing.  The kids were overwhelmed and couldn’t stop talking about the experience. It was indeed a great and fulfilling way to celebrate the 1st day for both volunteers and the children.

The 2nd day was a day out for Professional Volunteers at Ember Creek with FreedomHall. It was another memorable celebration with Music, spoken words, comedy and poetry. To crown the evening, there was a surprise Slum2School volunteers musical performance which thrilled everyone with Micheal Jacksons “Heal the World”.

We thank everyone who has been part of the 2nd Anniversary celebration and we look forward to the remaining days of the anniversary celebration.
